Evencio Cruz, age 83, born in Oaxaca, Mexico on February 1, 1934, of Indiana Harbor, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017.  Evencio is survived by his children:  Olga (Hugo R.) Arreguin, Fortino Francisco (Ethelyn) Cruz, Linda (Edward) Sanchez, Carmen C. (Noel) Rodriguez, Irene C. (Miguel) Paredes, Benjamin Cruz, Eva C. (Pedro) Porras, Rodolfo (Laura) Cruz, David Cruz (Elizabeth Lopez), and Trinidad Cruz (Suzanne Meyerowitz); son-in-law, Mario Sanchez Sr.;  grandchildren:  Hugo Evencio Arreguin, Joel Aaron Arreguin, Mariaoliva Cruz, Rebecca Cruz, Francisco Nicholas Cruz, Mario Sanchez, Jr., Eduardo Sanchez, Micaela Sanchez, Gabriel Sanchez, Lucas Sanchez, Carmen Noel Rodriguez, Oliva Rose Rodriguez, Sofia Paredes, Celia Paredes, Benjamin Cruz, Jr., Elena Oliva Cruz, Miranda Esperanza Cruz, Adan Porras, Mateo Porras, Noah Rodolfo Cruz, and Liliana Linda Cruz; brother, Efrain (Leonila) Cruz; sister, Marisela (late Reynaldo) Garza; and second, wife, Julieta Cruz; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife, Oliva Herrera Cruz (1996); daughter, Ana Maria Sanchez (2010); and brothers:  Francisco, Celio, Rogelio, and Emilio Cruz (all from Mexico).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 beginning at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar St., East Chicago with Rev. Carlos Martinez, A.I.C. officiating.  Interment to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 2:00 to 7:00 pm at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN, and on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass at 10:00 am at Church.

Evencio was a resident of East Chicago for the past 60 years; retired from Inland Steel where he was employed for over 30 years.  He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in East Chicago; an avid Cubs fan.
