John Joseph Satanek, Jr., age 86 of East Chicago, IN was born on June 21, 1930 and passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016.  He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Helen (nee Oberc); children: John (Mariza), Joseph, Catherine (Ronald), Robert, Janice, Laura, John Adams, Sharon (nee Adams) (Ernest C.) Tigler; sister, Maryann (late Jack) Payton; grandchildren: Marc Duque, Cathy, Susan, Lisa and Kimberly;  9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by parents, John and Victoria Satanek; sisters, Clara Salmon and Dorothy (late John) Krupinski;

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 26, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 525 N. Broad Street, Griffith, IN with Rev. Theodore J. Mens officiating.  Entombment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN.  There will be a gathering of family and friends from 9:00 am until time of Mass at the Church on Friday morning.

John was a 1948 graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt High School.  He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving on the USS Furse during the Korean Conflict, a lifetime member of American Legion Allied Post #369 and he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan his whole life.  John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother and he will be deeply missed.
