Mauricio “Pops” Avila, age 87 of East Chicago, IN passed away Friday, July 7, 2017.  He is survived by his wife, Blanca Avila; 8 children: Raquel (Roy) Oria, Marisa (Sergio) Salazar, Maria D. Pizana, Maria (Felipe) Oria, Jose Avila, Natalia (fiancée Matt Vasel) Avila, Louis Avila and Jaime Avila; many grandchildren, five great grandchilren, nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by parents, Innocencio and Concepcion Avila; siblings: Cruz, Petra and Jose.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 9:45 am from FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN and 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Angels Cathedral, 640 Tyler Street, Gary, IN with Rev. Kevin McCarthy and Rev. Frank Torres concelebrating.  Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.  Visitation at FIFE FUNERAL HOME will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 11, 2017.

Mauricio retired from Inland Steel Company, he was  a Korean War U. S.
