Anthony F. (Tony) Mrvan, age 81, of East Chicago passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020. Tony is survived by his daughters: Cynthia (Mark) Cappello and their children: Christopher (Megan) and Carly; great granddaughters, Chole and Kenzie; and Karen (David) Simchak and their daughters, Nicole (Jace) Peterson; great grandchildren, Bryce and Brittney Jo; Sarah (Cody) Majchrzak and their daughters, Brianna and Brooklyn; and Amanda (Dominic) DalSanto; brother, Senator Frank (Jean) Mrvan; sister, Irene Mrvan; In-laws: Charlotte (Ronald) Conn; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Patricia in 2013; children: Timothy and Maria; parents, Frank and Antoinette; Michael and Clara Wohadlo; and sister, Mary Ann (Ronald) Palucki; and Bernadine (Delbert) Henson.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, private funeral services with Msgr. John J. Siekierski officiating were held on November 24, 2020 with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois.
Life-long resident of East Chicago, Tony was the long-time Director of Human Resources for the City of East Chicago under Mayor Bob Pastrick; a 4th Degree Member of the East Chicago Knights of Columbus Msgr. Connelly Council #1700 where he served as former Grand Knight and District Deputy of the State of Indiana, long-time President of the K of C Columbian Club, and operator of the weekly bingo; a faithful member St. Stanislaus Church; former Member of the East Chicago Foundations Board of Directors; and former Member East Chicago Housing Authority. Tony was a lucky gambler and an avid golfer (winning numerous club championships at Yankee Springs Golf Course in Michigan, where he enjoyed spending the summers with his family at their cottage). Tony was a true “one of a kind” who will always be remembered for his kind heart. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stanislaus Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
