Mildred “Millie” Florence Matson Green, 95, born February 3, 1929, entered into eternal rest, on February 18, 2024, peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her only daughter Kimberly “Robin” Green Mendez (Edwin “Ringo”). Granddaughters: Danette, Shannon, Alesha, and Kristin Gholston (Jon); great-grandchildren: Kimberly (Brian), Juliette, Isabella, Veronica, Jacob, Christian, and Levi. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert Lee Green; brothers: Matt, Peter, George, Andy, and Michael Matson; and sisters Mary Svabik and Katie Murchek; and several nieces and nephews.
Millie retired from the Youngstown Canteen, where she served many meals with love and extra helpings. She was a proud member of many clubs in her East Chicago, IN community; including White Eagle Club, Golden Ages, Heritage Hall Seniors Club, Croatian American Civic Club, St. Mary’s Rosary Sodality, Happy-timers, and American Legion Post #369 Ladies Auxiliary.
Millie loved to play bingo every Wednesday, swim, and watch Cowboys & Westerns. She loved listening to Elvis and Croatian music. She loved to feed stray cats, loved her dogs, always contributed to animal rescues and happily donated to all charities. She loved to cook and make her famous nut rolls and soups.
Millie, affectionally known as Auntie, Grandma Green, and GG will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her kindness, grace, and spirit will stay in our hearts forever, and we will carry your “sparkle” wherever we go.
We invite you to wear something glittery, colorful, or embellished to honor the “sparkle” that Mildred was.
A heartfelt thank you to Franciscan Hospice for their care and comfort. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Humane Indiana Shelter or South Shore Friends of Veterans. To share an online condolence, logon to www.fifefuneralhome.com
