Olivia Estrada

Olivia Estrada (nee Samano), age 86 of East Chicago, IN passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at home. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 60 years, Luis Estrada; son: Luis (Lilly) Estrada; daughters: Veronica (Al) Slivko, Maria Elena (Jesse) Ford; grandchildren: Luis (Kristal) Estrada, Vannesa Villarreal, Meagan (Luis) Iruegas, Victoria Ford, Ava Slivko, James Ford; great grandchildren: Tristan Comanse, Mariah Comanse, Luis Estrada, Niyelli Estrada, Bradley Dorsey, Gabriel Estrada, Alijah Estrada and Carlos Iruegas; sisters: Petra Vaca and Lola Samano; sister-in-law, Gloria Samano; many loving nieces and nephews, and lifelong friend Rose Borjas.

Preceded in death by her beloved mother, Elodia Alcala; father, Francisco Samano, brothers: Arthur Ruiz, Alfonso (late Dolores) Ruiz, Francisco Samano, Manuel Samano, and Lorenzo (late Anna) Davila; sisters: Helen (late Joseph) Gonzales, Brigida (late Joe) Ochoa, Juanita (late Lupe) Ortega; nephews: Michael Gonzales, Guillermo Ruiz, John Leone and Jose Martin Vaca; nieces: Victoria Ruiz, Stella Ortega and Andrea Samano; brother and sister in-laws: Rafael and Anita Ruiz.

Oliva was a life-long resident of East Chicago. She brought joy and warmth to all who knew her, especially through her culinary talents. She delighted in cooking for her family and sharing her delicious meals. Her legacy of love and nourishment will forever live on in the hearts and stomachs of those she touched.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Diego Florez officiating. Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.  Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the Church on Tuesday morning.

A special thanks to her caregivers: Dolly Villarreal and Ronnie Recio, who cared for her with love in her final days.
