Geronimo Mares, age 73 of Griffith, IN formerly of Hammond and East Chicago, IN passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 peacefully at home.  He is survived by his son, Christopher (Josephine) Mares of Griffith, IN; 4 grandchildren: Victoria and Christopher Mares and David and Michael Mares; 3 sisters: Eulalia (Jose) Salcedo, Maria Nunez and Eloisa (Carlos) Alvarado; sister in-law, Margarita Jimenez; and several nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his wife, Maria; son, David; parents, Jose and Margarita Mares; brothers, Liborio Mares and Eustaquio (Concepcion) Mares.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 525 N. Broad Street, Griffith, IN with Rev. Theodore J. Mens officiating. Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 and from 9:30 am until time of Mass at the Church on Thursday morning.  Prayer services 7:30 pm on Wednesday.
