John Gonzalez, age 54 of Pleasanton, California, formerly of East Chicago, IN passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 after a valiant battle with liver disease.  John was a devoted father to his only child, Jacob A. Gonzalez Campbell; a devoted son to his mother, Emilia Gonzalez; an excellent brother to Octavio (Michele) Gonzalez and Iris Gil; an exceptional uncle to Alexander Gonzalez and Jessica Funk and Julie Alexandra Gil;  John also leaves his service dogs, Oso, Zeus and Bella which will remain with family and friends.  John was preceded in death by his father, John R. Gonzalez.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 12:30 pm at St. Mary Church, corner of Indianapolis Blvd. and 144th Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Nestor Varon officiating.  Burial to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN.

John was a former employee and then manager of Don Jose’s Restaurant Bar & Grill in Castro Valley, California from 1983 to 1996 where he provided exceptional customer service as well as outstanding Business Management skills.  After leaving Don Jose’s, John applied his experience, work ethic and passion into the food industry.  He became an (IBO) Independent Business Owner with the title of International Food & Sales Broker.  John freelanced with major food chains, restaurants and warehouses around the country and overseas from 1996 until 2017 when he became medically disabled.

John was a graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt High School and he loved fishing, hunting, camping and coaching his son’s baseball team for years.
