Maria L. Gutierrez, age 80 of East Chicago, IN passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at home. She is survived by 3 brothers and 6 sisters; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Emma (nee Champion) Gutierrez; brothers, Arthur and Carlos; and sister, Paula.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebtrated Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Mary Church, corner of Indianapolis Blvd. and 144th Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Terry Steffens officiating. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN.

Maria was a former nun with the Holy Cross Order and a teacher in East Chicago for many years.
