Roberto “Bobby” Ortiz, age 62, of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away Friday, October 11, 2018. Bobby is survived by: 2 daughters: Madeline (Elias Pabon) Oritz and Rachel Ortiz; 6 grandchildren: Elisia and Angel Marie Pabon, Juan Altamirano, Giovanni and Gianna Smith, and Jayla Ortiz; great-grandchild: Evalina Pabon; sister, Olga (Valentine) Gomez; brother, Oscar J. (Noemi) Ortiz; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; former spouse, Margaret Hernandez; and significant other, Ana Navarro. Preceded in death by his parents: Epifanio and Esther Ortiz; sister, Maria Victoria Ortiz; nephew, Nicholas F. Martinez; and nieces: Cynthia Renee and Elizabeth Rena Gomez.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 22, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Church, corner of Indianapolis Blvd. and 144th Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Terry Steffens officiating. Burial to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN. Visitation at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indiananpolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 2:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, October 21, 2018 and from 10:30 am until time of Mass at the Church on Monday morning.
Roberto was a graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt and was a a life-long resident of East Chicago; a mechanic and truck driver for many years who truly enjoyed his work; Bobby loved music and had many family and friends whom he loved and whom loved him back; an avid baseball, boxing and football fan; he loved the White Sox and Bears. He enjoyed playing baseball and pool and was a real good chess player. During the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, Bobby travelled to New Orleans to assist in the relief efforts. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated.
