Antonia "Tonia" Espitia

Antonia Espitia, age 89, of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away Friday, January 16, 2026 at home.  Antonia is survived by 5 children:  George (Francisca) Espitia, Edith (Michael) Salazar, Hector Espitia, Jaime Espitia, and Angelica (Luis) Marinez; 11 grandchildren: David and Victor (Wendy) Villarreal, George and Brenda Espitia, Michael A. and Christopher Salazar; Alexsandra, Julia, and Hector, Jr. Espitia; Edith (Javier) Almodovar and Jose Rincon; 14 great grandchildren:  David, Damian, Julian, Luciano, Viviana, Cecilia, Daniel, Gerardo, Abram, Guliana, Gabriel, Marcelo, Amelia, and Avah; sister, Anna (Abraham) Hernandez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Marcelo Espitia in 2003; brother, Samuel Valderrama; and sister, Maricela Valderrama.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Diego Florez officiating.  Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN.  Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 23, 2026 and from 11:00 am to 11:30 am at the Funeral Home on Saturday morning. 

Antonia was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for over 60 years; she worked at Comprehensive Renal Care in Hammond and was a Stanley Home Products Retailer for many years, which she greatly enjoyed. Antonia loved to cook for family and friends that she welcomed to her home, which was truly enjoyed by all! She loved to gardening, taking care of her plants and flowers.  Antonia was a wonderful and loving matriarch; who always found time for her family.
