Barbara E. (Vega) Torres, age 85 of East Chicago, IN passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 8:40 pm at St. Catherine Hospital in the hands of her granddaughters and son. She is survived by her loving and devoted son, Trent J. Torres; daughters-in-law, Linda (late James) Torres, and Sandra (late William Sr.) Torres; daughter-in-love, Cynthia Pacheco; son-in-love, Quintin Carroll; special niece, Ramona Denton; 8 grandchildren: Kelli (Alex) Semchuck, Sierra Torres, Nathaniel (Amanda) Torres, William (Alison) Torres, Jr., Caritina Torres, Ethan Torres, Danielle Torres, and Gabriel Torres; 4 step grandchildren: Luciano, Jaime, Alfredo, and Ciera; 5 great-grandchildren: Aurora, Christopher, Elise, Layla, and Sophia; granddaughter-in-love, Meagan Edwards; sister, Angela (late Tom) Wezorek; 2 aunts, Aurora Vega and Marie Vega Rico; numerous other brothers, sisters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, William and Beatrice Vega; loving husband, Vidal J. Torres; sons, James M. Torres and William G. Torres, Sr.; great-granddaughter Addison Grace Semchuck.

Barbara lived a life devoted to her family, friends, and many loved ones – she was a mom and grandma to everyone she met. She was a family-oriented woman and loved being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara made every moment teachable, was generous, giving, and gave unconditional love to all. In her free time, she enjoyed crafting, reading romance novels, keeping up with current events, and loved watching cooking shows.

Per her wishes, there will only be a private burial at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond, IN.
