Carlos Yamil Santiago

Carlos Yamil Santiago, lovingly known as Yamil to his family and friends, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the age of 43, at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, Indiana.

Yamil was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico to Juan Carlos Santiago and Dominga Flores, and enjoyed his childhood on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.  Later in life, he relocated to the Midwest, specifically Indiana.

He was known for his infectious laugh and smile, always in a light-hearted mood.  Those who were close to him know that he dedicated his time to helping others around him.

Yamil's life brimmed with appreciation for various interests.  He found immense joy savoring Chinese cuisine and his favorite Puerto Rican dishes, corned beef and pollo guisao.  The vibrant hue of red held a special significance in Yamil's heart.  Baseball and basketball served as sources of great joy for him as well.

Yamil leaves behind a lasting legacy and will be deeply missed by his three beloved daughters who he is survived by:  Kiara (Margo), Yamilis, and Ariana.

During this time of grief, let us remember Yamil's life, the love he shared, and the impact he made on those around him.  He will be remembered for his kindness, his caring nature, and the memories he created with his loved ones.  Yamil's presence will forever remain in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Friends, family, and loved ones are invited to pay their respects during a wake scheduled for Sunday, June 4, 2023 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm CST at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, June 4, 2023.  (Due to construction, please use Railroad, Tod, or Olcott Avenues to 142nd Street) Private cremation to follow.
