Carmen Santos-Guzman, age 77, of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, formerly East Chicago, passed away Monday, May 24th, 2021. Carmen is survived by her husband, Juan Guzman; 4 children: Noel Santos, Javier (Maria) Santos, Adrian (Ana) Santos, and Carmen (Michael) Rodriguez; grandchildren: Erica and Ismael Santos; Christian and Jocelin Rodriguez; Sabrina, Javier, and Elijah Santos; Jasmine, Crystal, Jerry, Jose, and Cristina Santos; many great grandchildren; 5 brothers: Angel (late Carmen) Lebron, Edwin Lebron, George Lebron, Alejandro (late Zaida) Santana, and Frank Santana; 1 sister, Eustacia (Carlos) Amaro; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by first husband, Ismael Santos; parents: Catalicio Santana Lebron and Emerita Rivera Vasquez; 2 brothers: Juan Santana and Manuel Santana; and sister, Adelina Reyes.
Carmen was one of the original owners of the Latin Lounge in East Chicago and later was a crossing guard and bi-lingual teacher’s aide for the School City of East Chicago and at the Roberto Clemente Center. She was devoted to her church and faith and was very active in the street ministry where she loved to preach. Carmen loved to cook and collect religious books and dolls. She enjoyed dominoes, her birds, roosters, butterflies, flowers, and gardening. Carmen had a wonderful smile and a big heart – always willing to give you the shirt off her back.
Visitation will begin at 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 with services at 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021 beginning at 10:00 A.M. at Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal Emanuel Church, 3802 Elm Street, East Chicago, IN with Pastor Johnny Bonilla officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN. There will be visitation at the Church on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:00 am. Memorial donations requested to the family.
