Darlene A. (Yager) Burfield

Darlene Burfield, née Yager, aged 72, of Whiting, IN, departed this life on Saturday, September 2, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Burfield, who passed away in 2022. Born on June 14, 1951, to Albert J. Yager and Dorothy Mae Yager (née Chandik), Darlene was a lifetime resident of Whiting, Indiana. She is survived by her daughter Cara Christacakos and son-in-law William Jr, as well as her cherished grandsons, Hayden and Benjamin.

Darlene leaves behind her sisters Kathy Shannon (Donald Sr), Marlene Yager Dean (Marty), and Christine Pope (Robert), in addition to her brothers Albert “Buck” Yager, Bruce Yager, Stephen Yager, and Frank Yager (Angie). She was held in high regard by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

A graduate of George Rogers Clark High School in the class of 1969, Darlene was the general manager for over forty years at Sokol Club Lodge 269 in Whiting, Indiana. She also devoted many years as an employee of the Community Hospital Dietary Team. Her professional path concluded with a well-deserved retirement from the City of Hammond.

Darlene cherished every moment spent with her grandsons. She enjoyed shopping and socializing with friends and was always open to making new connections. Her unrivaled skill and passion for crocheting led her to create keepsakes that have forged lasting memories for many friends and family.
