Derek Magee gained his wings, May 15, 2026. Derek was born August 10, 1961 in East Chicago, Indiana. He was the son of Daisy Dee-Dee Magee and Willie Earl Magee. Derek is the 5th child of his siblings: Dolores Brown Magee, Karen Carpenter, Cynthia Brown, Michael Magee, Gerard Magee and Marlon Magee. He also has 3 amazing daughters: Tiana Magee, Tiara Magee Cole and Tamara Magee Cortez. Derek has 3 grandchildren: Thalia, Isaiah Magee, and Xiomara Magee Cortez. Derek also gave his blessings of hand in marriage to Eric Cortez, and Ashton Cole - he was very excited to gain these two gentlemen as his new sons-in-law.
Derek Magee was a U.S. Veteran. He also retired after 30 years of service from Inland Steel Company (Cleveland Cliffs). He was a devoted hard-working man. He was the life of the party. He was a sarcastic talker, jokester, he loved to laugh, and make others smile. He enjoyed taking rides in his Jeep; loved music, fishing, grilling and bike riding. He loved creating new memories while reminiscing on old memories. He loved his girls and grandchildren and spoke highly of them; he loved his family over-all. He was charming; he knew what to say... Derek wouldn't want his family and friends to cry over his passing. He would want you to understand, now he is "free" and would like you to hold on to your memories of him. Celebrate who he was.
"I thought of you today. That's nothing new
I thought of you yesterday and days before that too
I think of you in silence. I often speak your name
All I have are memories and your picture in a frame
Your memory is my keepsake with which I'll never part
The Lord has you in his keeping, I have you in my heart
"Our daddy use to say.... You're never alone. I am always with you... ...
