Doris M. Abreu, age 65, of East Chicago passed away Monday, September 7, 2020 at St. Mary Hospital in Hobart. Doris is survived by her loving husband of 47 years Andres Abreu Lopez; son, Jorge Abreu; two daughters: Damaris Abreu and Lillian (significant other, Jimmy Saucedo) Abreu; 4 grandchildren: Nicholas Austin, Benjamin Jordan, Christian Lucas and Amara Rose; father, Eligio Maldonado; brothers: Eligio Maldonado, Jr., Ted Maldonado, Joel Maldonado, Samuel Maldonado, Daniel Maldonado, Hiram Maldonaldo, Pedro E. Gonzalez Borrero, Pedro J. Chevere Borrero, and Arnoldo Chevere Borrero; sisters: Darlene Maldonado, Debra Maldonado, and Evelyn Chevere Borrero; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her mothers, Ana Rosa Borrero and Aura E. Maldonado; and brothers: Luis E. Maldonado Torres and George Maldonado .
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2020 beginning at 11:00 am at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, Indiana with Pastor Israel Ramos and Pastor Angel Ruiz officiating. Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana. Visitation will be prior to the services on Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 am at FIFE FUNERAL HOME. FACE MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIRED
Doris was born on July 28, 1955 in Utuado, Puerto Rico. In 1971 she came to live with her father Eligio and resumed a life here in East Chicago, Indiana. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1974. Doris married on July 14, 1973 to Andres and had three children: Jorge Hiram, Damaris and Lillian Ivette. She was a devoted Bebo (grandmother) to her 4 grandchildren.
Doris was a lifelong resident of East Chicago and lifelong member of Iglesia Cristiana Pentacostés in East Chicago. Doris worked as a teacher's aide for 10 years in the East Chicago Public School System.
Doris had a passion for helping others no matter who it was, she always made a way. Her hobbies included reading, baking, painting and crocheting. She also loved gardening and loved planting flowers.
