Edna I. Nieves Obituary
Edna I. Nieves, age 75 of East Chicago, IN, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025. Edna, known to many of her friends and loved ones as “Eggie”, was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico. Edna, who was the life of the town of East Chicago, found her love and made many memories through friendship and fellowship. She volunteered at churches and local events, including the Christmas decorating committee for several years. Anyone who entered her home would be welcomed with a beautiful smile and a plate to eat. She treated everyone like family and always put others before herself. She loved to eat with her family and friends. She enjoyed DIY arts and crafts. She has left a lasting impression with everyone who had the honor to know her. She was the heart of our family, and through our heartache, we are comforted knowing she is at peace and watching over us.
Edna is survived by her 3 sons: Daniel Ayala, Leopoldo Ayala (Krystal), and George Ayala (Natalie); 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister, Luz Perez (Felix); a total of 12 nieces and nephews; a total of 20 great nieces and nephews; and beloved friend, Juan Andrade. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Genara DeJesus and Pablo Nieves; and sisters, Carmin Ocasio and Miriam Colón. She is lovingly remembered by many cherished family and friends.
