In Loving Memory of Elias Vega

Elias Vega, 89, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories, as well as a legacy that will live on through the many lives he touched.

Elias was the beloved husband of Guadalupe Vega, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Together, they built a family filled with love, strength, and generations of memories.

He was a devoted and loving father to Laura (Jose) Betancourt, Eva (Albert) Cornejo, Froylan Vega, Guadalupe (Ricardo) Ruiz, Elias (Ruby) Vega, Damian (Isabel) Vega, Isabel (Joshua) Vega-Longstreth, Ernesto (Nora) Vega, Maria del Carmen Vega, Alex (Monica) Vega, Adrianna Vega, Ángel Vega, and John Vega.

He was a deeply loved grandfather and a cherished member of a large family whose lives were forever touched by his presence, love, and guidance.

Elias was the beloved son of the late Ángel Vega Custodio and Maria “Caria” León.

Elias was a great fan of professional wrestling and would always invite people to sit with him and watch the matches. He also had a group of friends he would meet for breakfast whenever he could, where they would talk, laugh, and share fond memories. His friends even gave him the nickname “El Chiludo.”

Despite having such a large family and a busy life, Elias always found time to volunteer, helping distribute food to those in need. Last year, he was honored in an exhibit at the National Museum of Mexican Art titled Rails and Roots, where the museum displayed a photograph of him working at Wisconsin Steel.

His passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and all those who knew and loved him. Although he is no longer with us, his memory will live on through the stories shared, the lessons he taught, the family he created, and the love he gave throughout his 89 years.

He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and eternally loved.

A Mass of Chirstian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Church, Indianapolis Blvd. at 144th Street, East Chicago, Indiana, with Rev. Julio C. En cariñosa memoria de Elias Vega

Elias Vega, a los 89 años de edad, falleció pacíficamente, dejando tras de sí una vida llena de amor, familia y recuerdos, así como un legado que perdurará a través de las muchas vidas que tocó.

Elías fue el amado esposo de Guadalupe Vega, con quien compartió 66 años de matrimonio. Juntos formaron una familia llena de amor, fortaleza y generaciones de recuerdos.

Fue un padre dedicado y cariñoso para Laura (Jose) Betancourt, Eva (Albert) Cornejo, Froylan Vega, Guadalupe (Ricardo) Ruiz, Elías (Ruby) Vega, Damian (Isabel) Vega, Isabel (Joshua) Vega-Longstreth, Ernesto (Nora) Vega, Maria del Carmen Vega, Alex (Monica) Vega, Adrianna Vega, Ángel Vega y John Vega.

Fue un abuelo muy querido y un miembro entrañable de una gran familia, cuyas vidas quedaron marcadas para siempre por su presencia, su amor y su guía.

Elías fue el amado hijo de los difuntos Ángel Vega Custodio y Maria "Caria" León.

Elías era un gran aficionado a la lucha libre; siempre invitaba a la gente a sentarse con él para ver los combates. También tenía un grupo de amigos con quienes se reunía a desayunar siempre que podía para conversar y compartir gratos recuerdos. Sus amigos incluso le pusieron el apodo de "El Chiludo". A pesar de tener una familia tan numerosa y una vida ajetreada, encontraba tiempo para hacer voluntariado repartiendo alimentos a personas necesitadas. El año pasado fue homenajeado en una exposición del Museo Nacional de Arte Mexicano, titulada Rieles y Raíces, donde el museo exhibió una imagen suya trabajando en Wisconsin Steel.

Su partida deja un profundo vacío en los corazones de su esposa, hijos, nietos, bisnietos, familiares y todos aquellos que lo conocieron y lo amaron. Aunque ya no esté con nosotros, su recuerdo perdurará en las historias compartidas, las lecciones que enseñó, la familia que creó y el amor que brindó a lo largo de sus 89 años.

Será profundamente extrañado, recordado para siempre y amado eternamente.
