Elvira (Castaneda) Huerta, age 87 of East Chicago, IN passed away Sunday, January 19, 2025 at home.  Elvira was born in Guadalajara, Mexico then moved to Chicago, IL.  She is survived by 4 children: Ricardo Huerta Jr., Jose Huerta, Sandra (late William) Torres, Luciano Huerta; grandchildren: Jacki L. (Antonio) and 2 kids, Jaime S and 4 kids and 1 great, Jose Jr and 3 kids, Jesse H. and one child, Ricardo III and 4 kids, Miguel H. and 3 kids, David H., Alfredo A., Ciera T. and 2 kids, Danielle T. and 2 kids, Gabriel T., Xavier V. and 3 kids, Alexis H. and 4 kids, Luciano Jr. and one child, Trinidad Huerta, and Mario Huerta and one child;  dearest friend, Eva Rodriguez.

Private cremation services were provided by FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN.

Known to everyone as “Vida”, she came to Chicago, IL at the age of 14.  At the age of 18 she met the love of her life, Ricardo.  She loved to cook and feed her family.  When she wasn’t cooking, she was either doing crossword puzzles, playing cards or watching “Novelas” with a “Winston” in her hand.  After 3 long years of battling cancer, The Lord welcomed her home peacefully in her sleep.  To share an online condolence, logon to www.fifefuneralhome.com
