Francisco M. Hinojosa, Sr.

Francisco M. Hinojosa, Sr., age 78 of East Chicago, IN passed away Friday, January 16, 2026 at home surrounded by his loved ones until his last moments.

Francisco was born in Ario De Rayon, Michoacan, Mexico and came to the United States in 1969, then met the Love of his life, Francisca which he married in 1972.  Francisco was a fabricator at Jernberg Industries until the day he retired.  He loved his sports and kicking back with his Miller Lite.  Above all, he loved his kids and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Aurelio and Ignacia Hinojosa; son, baby Jose Hinojosa; brother, Jose Bermudez; nephew, Armando Hinojosa; niece, Geraldina “Gigi” Lopez; mother in-law, Guadalupe (Torres) Vela and father in-law, Manuel Vela.  He is survived by his wife, Francisca (Vela) Hinojosa; children: Liliana (Phillip) Abeyta, Yvonne (Manuel) Adame, Elizabeth (Michael Ramos) Hinojosa, Francisco (Rosa) Hinojosa, Jr. and Monique (Jose) Mendoza; grandchildren: Manuel III, Dominic, Kelli, Jared, Phillip, Keoni, Mia, Jose III, and Luca; brother, Jaime (Martha) Hinojosa; nephews, Mauricio and Victor; niece, Estefany; sister in-law, Herlinda Lopez.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 23, 2026 at 10:30 am at St. Mary Church, corner of Indianapolis Blvd. and 144th Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Terry Steffens officiating.  Burial to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN.  Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 22, 2026 and from 10:00 am to 10:30 am at the Church on Friday morning.
