Freddie Ray Emery was born on December 25, 1947 in Chatham, LA. He was the youngest of eleven children born to Quintelar and Julius Emery.
Freddie attended Jasper Henderson High School in Chatham, LA and Roosevelt High School in East Chicago, IN.
Freddie married the late Beatrice Winbush of East Chicago, IN, and gained an adopted son in Kalen Abram (grandson). Freddie and Kalen enjoyed music, cooking, fishing, and reading the Bible together.
Music was Freddie’s God-given talent. He taught himself to play the guitar and the piano. He was also a singer in the Scott Brothers band.
Although Freddie was small in stature, he had a large appetite. With this large appetite grew a love for cooking. Any random day would become a Thanksgiving feast or a simple outdoor grill day in the middle of winter.
Freddie worked at Blaw-Knox, Gary Airport, and Scrap Metal Services.
He was a quiet person until you would mention God. Later in life he became a Minister and the word of God remained at the tip of his tongue and until his last days.
Freddie was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Winbush; his parents, Julius and Quintelar Emery; three brothers: Thomas Morgan (Bobby), and Anders James (AJ), Arthur Westley (Mac); and four sisters: Lula (Mary) Bullard, Thelma Roberson, Ida Bell Austin, and Margaret Morris.
Freddy leaves to cherish his memory: son Mark and Kalen; sister Essie Thompson and Deborah Walton; brothers: Oscar and A’Lester Emery; step-children Murray, Marquie, and Myckol (Mickey) Shamble; multiple grandchildren (Kayla, Dylan, and Aliyah) and loved ones from the Emery and Shamble families; and many friends.
