Helen Kostelnak, age 101 of East Chicago, IN. passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Helen was married to Edward for 65 years until his death in 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank & Josephine Lawinski, 4 brothers and 3 sisters, Walter and Stanley Krol, Frank and Raymond Lawinski, 3 sisters Cecelia and Dolores Lawinski and Jean Piper; daughter Barbara (Ed) Knight of Simi, Ca., Grandson Gregory (Sherri) Knight of Newaygo, Mi. She is survived by her son Michael (Pamela Thompson) Koscielniak of Michigan City, IN.; grandchildren Karen (Scott) Soles of Naperville, IL., Laura (Richard) Knight Simmons, Santa Clarita, CA., Patrick (Katrina) Knight of Nipomo, CA. Helen has 9 great grandchildren, 4 great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was proud of her Polish Heritage and was a member of St. John Cantius Church in East Chicago for many years. Despite her working career at AT&T for 27 years, Helen managed well to bring up her family. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and tatting while watching her favorite Chicago football, baseball and basketball teams with Ed. After retirement, her greatest thrills was going mushroom hunting in the Fall with Ed and her youngest brother Raymond to all their secret woods. She loved to go Polka dancing and enjoyed live Polka music in the local music halls and Polish weddings. A memorial mass or contribution to a charity of your choice is appreciated.
