Irma Arroyo Sher Obituary

In Loving Memory of Irma Arroyo Sher

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Irma Arroyo Sher, who passed away peacefully at her home in East Chicago, Indiana, on July 4, 2026, at the age of 60.

Irma was born on April 8, 1966, to Aurora B. Arroyo and Jose G. Arroyo. She lived a life centered on love, compassion, and caring for others.

Irma earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Administration from Indiana University while working at Indiana University Northwest.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Aurora B. Arroyo; her father, Jose G. Arroyo; and her beloved partner, Daniel Reillo. She is survived by her cherished son, Gregory Sher; his wife, Shaynise Sher; and their daughter, Aaliyah Kimbrough; her brothers, Jose E. Arroyo and his wife, Rachel Arroyo, Hector B. Arroyo and his wife, Katherine Arroyo, and Edward Arroyo; and her sister, Yolanda G. (Arroyo) and her husband, Mario Solis. She is also survived by her nephews, Sean (Elena) Arroyo and Mario Solis Jr.; and her nieces, Gloria Y. Solis, Margaret (Carey) Barkley, and Emily (Esteban) Armijo.

Irma most recently worked as a teacher at Washington Elementary School, where she found great joy in helping children learn and grow. Teaching was more than a profession to her, it was a calling. She had a gift for making every child feel valued, encouraged, and capable, and her kindness left a lasting impression on countless students and colleagues.

Outside the classroom, Irma had a deep love for music and singing. She had an infectious smile, a wonderfully goofy sense of humor, and a heart that welcomed everyone. She had a remarkable ability to brighten any room and make people laugh, even during difficult times. Her generosity, warmth, and genuine care for those around her made her someone who was deeply loved by family, friends, and all who knew her.

Above all else, Irma was an incredible mother. Her love for her son, Gregory, was unwavering, and she dedicated her life to supporting, encouraging, and caring for him. She taught by example what it meant to love unconditionally, to be kind, and to always find joy in life’s simple moments.

Irma’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, former students, and everyone whose life she touched. Though she is no longer with us, the love she shared, the laughter she inspired, and the lives she changed will never be forgotten.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
