Ismael "Mel" Bernal

         Ismael “Mel” Bernal, age 59, of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025.  Mel is survived by 2 children:  Manuel Bernal and his girlfriend, Nicole Maldonado; and Emilio (Keila) Bernal; Fiance, Maria Ruano; 5 step-children:  Gracie (Xavier) Andres, Rebecca (Ismael) Guzman, Robert Garcia, George (Rebecca) Zamora, and Stacy Garcia; numerous grandchildren:  Yari’Melis Bernal, Emilio Bernal, Jr., Nayeli Bernal, Ezequiel Bernal, Annalis Bernal, Adrianna Bernal, Christian Garcia, Caleb Garcia, Andrew Andres, Delilah Andres, Abel Andres, Zuri Guzman, Ethan Guzman, Khloe Guzman, Valerie Guzman, Ismael Guzman, Jr., Jason Guzman, Angel Zamora, Daniella Zamora, Sebastian Zamora, Anthony Zamora and Leonardo Zamora; and brother, Pete Bernal.  Preceded in death by his parents:  Pedro and Maria Bernal.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, Indiana.  Private Cremation to follow.

Mel worked for the City of East Chicago for over 26 years; he was an avid Chicago White Sox and Dallas Cowboys fan.  Mel was a devoted father and grandfather.  He was a true fighter, battling high blood pressure, kidney disease, and stroke for many years.
