James M. Repko (Jim), age 83, passed away peacefully on October 19, surrounded by his wife of 43 years, Roseann Repko (Jakubowicz) and his loving family. Jim was the youngest of three children and is preceded in death by his brothers Edward R. (Barbara) Repko Sr., and Robert (Patti) Repko, along with his parents John and Ann Repko. Jim leaves behind his sisters-in-law Carol (Wayne) Blessing, Mary Lou (Richard) Leemhuis, and brother-in-law Robert (Jackie) Jakubowicz, along with many nephews and nieces. With special thanks going to his nephew, Joseph Repko, and caregiver, Joyce Howse, for their unwavering help and dedication.
Jim’s entire professional career was spent serving the youth in the Diocese of Gary. First, as art teacher and supervisor throughout the Diocese. Later, he continued to serve the young as Principal of Indiana Harbor Catholic Elementary School (East Chicago), St. Casimir (Hammond), Sacred Heart (Whiting), and Holy Angels (Gary). His final service to the Diocese was accomplished during his tenure as Administrator of the Carmelite Home for Boys (Hammond).
Jim graduated from Morton High School (1960), Calumet College of St. Joseph, and Purdue University. He was a man of deep Catholic faith, and this, coupled with his love of working with children, made his life’s work a perfect fit.
Jim will be remembered as a most loving husband, devoted family member, educator, and friend. He will be missed by many.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 11:30 am at St. Mary Church, corner of Indianapolis Blvd. and 144th Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Terry Steffens officiating. Interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Friends may meet with the family from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at the Church on Tuesday morning.
