Jesus M. Martinez

Jesus M. Martinez, age 98, of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2024.  Jesus is survived by three children:  Jesse (Sharon) Martinez, Joe (Max Miller) Martinez, and Loretta (late Gary) Grindey; grandsons: Anthony and Michael Martinez; great granddaughters:  Madelyn and Stella Martinez; brother, Jaime Martinez; sister-in-law, Adelina Martinez; numerous nieces and nephews; and great nieces and great nephews.  Preceded in death by his wife, Dolores “Lola” Martinez; and daughter, Estela Martinez.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar Street, East Chicago, Indiana with Rev. Diego Florez, officiating.  Private Cremation to follow.  Visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, Indiana.

Jesus came to the United States under the Braceros Program in 1947 and worked at Inland Steel Company for over 35 years; member of the Inland Steel 25 year club; Jesus married Dolores Monreal del Toro on June 5, 1949, and they were blessed with 4 children; he became a U.S. Citizen in 1958. He was a man of many talents and worked at uniting the Mexican/American community under the auspices of the Union Benefica Mexicana (UBM).  He will be missed by his family and friends.
