Jesus Santos "Chuy" Peña Garcia

Jesus Santos “Chuy” Pena Garcia, age 68 of East Chicago, IN passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025 at home.  Jesus was born in Losa Aldamas, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on December 16, 1956 to Trinidad Garcia and Santos Pena.  Jesus was preceded in death by siblings: Gabriel, Clarita, and Jose Manuel Resendez; and son, Jesus J. Pena.

Jesus is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Maribel “Peewee” Pena; 5 children: Miguel Pena, Maria (Byron) Cervera, Rachel, Isaiah (Jessica) Pena, and Mikaela (Jose Ignacio).  Jose was the best papa to Esai (Fabian), Santino, Isaiah Jr., Camilla, Maddalyn, Isaac, and Taylor.  He was a proud great grandpa to Emma and Bella Rae.  Jesus was a beloved brother of Herculano, Idalia, and Amparo and beloved uncle to many.

Jesus retired from Local Union #41 to become a full-time nanny.  When he wasn’t watching his grandkids, he was either helping his compadres Peto or Ronnie around their house.  On sunny morinings, you can find him at the track with Polin or out golfing with Manuel.  After long days in Mama Lisa’s garden, he would be out on the front porch having cold ones with Pedro.

Jesus was known as a “Professional” golfer, “Mr. Fix-it-all”, “World’s Best Chef”, hardest working man in the world, “Mr. Iron Man”, “Mr. No Filter” and Life of the Party.  When in doubt call Chuy and you will get an ear full but he will solve your problem.

Throughout the many years of his life, Jesus never lost his faith in God.  He was a long time member of St. Stanislaus Church. Jeus never missed a family event, no matter how large or small, you could count on seeing him there. Chuy had a nickname for everyone whether you liked it or not.

This unexpected loss has impacted many lives.  He was the Rock and Heart of his family.  He was a friend to many and his memories will be cherished forever.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 10:00 am at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN with Pastor Victor Ortiz officiating.  Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.  Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 and from 9:30 am to 10:00 am on Wednesday morning.
