Jourdan Thomas Obituary

Jourdan Anthony Thomas was born at St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago, Indiana on March 21, 1990 to parents Kevin Moore and Irene Thomas.  Shortly after birth, Jourdan was baptized in the arms of the Lord at the East Chicago Salvation Army on April 22, 1990. Throughout his life, Jourdan maintained a strong faith with the Lord as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ under the direction of Dr. Johnice Joyner and the late Apostle Ernest B. Joyner II.

As a young child, Jourdan had a voracious appetite and loved to eat. His family enjoyed preparing his meals and cooking for him. But when Jourdan thought a family member was moving too slow with his food, he was quick to ask another one. Unbeknownst to them, he was simply fueling his budding athleticism.

Jourdan was blessed with the talent of being a natural-born triathlete. He excelled at every sport he participated in. HIs love for playing football started in McKinley Elementary (East Chicago, IN) and progressed once he began attending Griffith Middle School. Jourdan attended Merrillville High School and received letters in Track & Field, Cross Country, and of course, Football. In 2009, Jourdan graduated from Douglasville High School in Douglasville, GA, Immediately after high school, Jourdan enlisted in the United States Navy during Fall 2009. His basic training experience and “A” school training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes (North Chicago, IL) prepared him to join the Navy’s fleet as an Operations Specialist. Jourdan served his first and only enlistment in the Navy aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt, based in Norfolk, VA.

Jourdan constantly strove for success. After separating from the U.S. Navy, Jourdan pursued his education at IvyTech Community College and Colorado Technical University, where he majored in Business Administration. Additionally, Jourdan loved to travel all over the country for personal and professional reasons. One of his previous jobs led him to California, where he  once worked for the Children’s Literacy Foundation of America  (CFLA), a literary program that caters to disadvantaged children. His most recent employment led him to MMM Marketing LLC in Ohio, where he was employed as a Energy Solutions Representative.

The discovery of his passing was a huge devastation to his family and friends. Jourdan had a huge heart, a radiant smile, and always held his family in high esteem.  Jourdan leaves behind to cherish his memory: his only child and daughter, Alanni Thomas; mother, Irene Thomas; father, Kevin Moore; his dad, Darrell Anderson; brother, Lavelle Moore; grandmother, Lillie Thomas. Preceded in death by grandfathers, Walter Moore and Walter Thomas, and grandmothers, Juanita Moore and Jo’Ann Wesby; also a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
