Juana “Juanita” Gonzalez, age 81 of East Chicago, IN found her way home to the be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021. She is survived by her only sibling, Pedro (Lupe) Gonzalez; niece, Angelica (Agripino) Lopez; nephews, Gerardo (Luz) Gonzalez and David (Cynthia) Gonzalez; great nephew and great nieces: Julian (fiancé Jenifer), Bianca, Nicolas, Sienna, Ariana and Mariano Gonzalez; she also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in San Luis Potosi, Mexico; also many dear friends that became her family. Preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Monica Gonzalez.
Juanita was born in Guanajuato, Mexico on June 24, 1939 and was raised in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. In 1964 she immigrated to East Chicago, IN and soon after worked at Florsheim Shoe Factory, Chicago, IL. Later she moved on to Premiere Candy Company, Hammond, IN and after many years she retired. Juanita was a very religious woman of faith. In San Luis Potosi she belonged to the Carmelite Order. She dedicated her time and life to Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, East Chicago, IN. In her time there she took charge of the Kitchen, the Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe, participated in many Cursillos and organized the Thanksgiving meals every year. Although Juanita had no children of her own, she whole heartedly dedicated her time and love to her nieces and nephews. Juanita will be greatly missed by her family. She leaves a huge void yet wonderful memories.
Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, April 12, 2021 and from 8:30 am to 9:15 am Tuesday, April 13, 2021 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3502 Deodar Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev.
