Juanita Arredondo Sanchez, age 99 of East Chicago, IN passed away Monday, October 24, 2022.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 7, 2022 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3200 East 91st Street, Chicago, IL 60617. Private interment will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN.

The oldest of ten children, she is survived by the youngest three, Camila, Raymon, and Lorenzo; her son Juan Miguel, her grandchildren, Elisa and Alejandro and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was a proud alumni of Washington H.S. in 1941, working for Local 1010 after graduation, and was selected as Queen of the Fiestas Patrias of East Chicago ( Harbor) in 1947. In 1952 she went with Guadalupe T. Sanchez to live in Los Angeles, CA, They started their family and she had her only child Juan. She worked for several small businesses over the years and ultimately retired. She nursed and took care of her husband, Guadalupe, who ultimately passed away from Prostate cancer in 1988. Juanita returned to her roots in East Chicago, IN in 1989. She took a part-time job at an insurance company as a Customer Service Rep. eventually retiring from there. In 2001 she started as a volunteer for the St. Catherine Hospital Auxiliary, helping in the Gift Shop and helping set up the Chapel early in the morning. She loved working at the hospital and felt honored to count the medical staff, hospital staff and fellow volunteers as friends. She especially cherished the last 4 years as President when she was involved in the Scholarship Process.
