Katherine Lorraine Rodriguez

Katherine Lorraine Rodriguez, age 94, of East Chicago, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.  Katherine is survived by 4 children:  Roseanna (late Roberto) Stabolito, Elida Abeyta, Alicia Mendoza, and Thomas (Monica) Rodriguez; 10 grandchildren:  Raul, Jr., Alfonso, Robert, Anita, Steven, Rachel, Ruthie, Philip, Rebecca, Mario; numerous great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Emiliano Rodriguez; sons: Raul Rodriguez and John Rodriguez; brothers:  Daniel Zuniga, Fernando Martinez, and Baldomero Martinez; and grandson, Dominic Stabolito.

Funeral services will be private with burial at Mt. Mercy Cemetery, Gary, Indiana.

Katherine was born in McKeesport, PA and moved to East Chicago in 1951; she began working at age 11 in a bakery in Pennsylvania; at age 14 she met her best friend, Kush, and remained friends their entire lives. In East Chicago she worked as a waitress for many years at the Grill and Hiawatha Restaurants where she made many friends over the years.  Along with her husband, Emiliano, she opened and operated numerous shrimp houses in East Chicago and Hammond, including Homer’s Shrimp House, Main Shrimp, Broadway Shrimp and Calumet Shrimp. In 2005 one of her most proud accomplishments was obtaining her GED.  Katherine was a hard worker her entire life and instilled those values in her children.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  Memorial donations are requested to Hospice of the Calumet Area.
