Lucia "Lucy" Torres Flores

Lucy Torres entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 19, 2019.  She was born in Puerto Rico but was a long-time resident of Bloomington, IN and then later moved to Munster, IN.  Lucy received a Master of Arts Degree and then later received a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Comparative Literature at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.  Among her literary accomplishments, she published a bilingual book of original poems, “Mi Libro – My Book”, and has written two other bilingual books for Spanish speaking students in the United States.  Lucy accomplished these achievements with the challenge of being blind as a young child.  She was most proud of her Thesis on “The Black Poetry of Luis Pales Matos”.  Lucy loved spending time listening to her favorite Opera music and world news on her shortwave radio and drinking her favorite Bustelo coffee.

Lucy is survived by brothers and sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, and her most cherished friends.

Lucy will be laid to rest on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 1:00 pm at White Oak Cemetery in her beloved Bloomington, IN.  To share an online condolence, logon to www.fifefuneralhome.com
