Lydia N. (Pabey) Aponte

Lydia N. Aponte (nee Pabey), age 86 of Whiting, IN passed away Monday, October 7, 2024.  She is survived by her husband, Jorge Aponte; mother of 4 children: late George (Stephanie) Aponte, late Wilfred Aponte, David (Janice) Aponte and Robert (Denise) Aponte; 9 grandchildren: Melissa Aponte, George (Nicole) Aponte, Matthew (Anngelik) Aponte, Justin Guettner, Jeremy Aponte, Jason Aponte, Shannon (Austin) McClure, Hunter Aponte, and Lucas Aponte;; 7 great grandchildren: Audrina Aponte, Liliana Aponte, Mateo Aponte, Luca Aponte, Bailey McClure, Maeve McClure, and Rowan McClure; 7 siblings: late Elba (Carmelo) Garcia, late Luis Pabey, late Freddy Pabey, late Lucy (Juan) Burgos, Daisy (Pablo) Rosario, Betty (Jim) Paine, and William (Flora) Pabey;  many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 14, 2024 at 11:00 am at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN with Rev.Terry Steffens officiating.  Burial to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN.  Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday morning.

Lydia enjoyed working for Clark High School in the cafeteria for many years.  Her true passion was taking care of family, whether it was babysitting for her grandchildren or cooking for her family and company.  She also enjoyed traveling as much as she could, especially trips with her sisters.  Lydia loved such simple things like gardening, tending to her plants at home, writing poems, and going out to eat, especially at Red Lobster.  To share an online condolence, logon to www.fifefuneralhome.com
