Marcelino Ramirez

Marcelino Ramirez, age 84 of East Chicago, IN passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024.  He is survived by 4 children: Erik (Estephani), Oscar (Ida Maria), Cindy, and Luis Angel; 2 grandchildren: Jacob and Malakai; 2 brothers: Enrique and Pedro; numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his wife, Ofelia; father, Pedro; mother, Carmen; brothers: Benjamin, Antonio, Rafael, and Manuel.

Marcelino was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico as the second oldest of 7 brothers.  He emigrated from his beloved Mexico in his early years to the United States to help provide for his family.  As a migrant worker, he traveled across the United States, experiencing many diverse places, jobs, and people before ultimately settling down in the Chicagoland area in the 1970’s. He was a devoted Inland Steel Company employee retiring in 2003 after 30 years of hard work.

Marcelino was a kind, patient, and gentle man who loved gardening, cheering on his Chicago Cubbies, and playing along to “The Price is Right” every single weekday.  Living in East Chicago for more than 40 years he proudly proclaimed the city as “My Hometown!” every chance he had.  Marcelino had a deep love for animals and nature, finding great joy in daily walks at the park, tending to his yard, or just sitting on the porch listening to the birds chirp.

Marcelino devoted his life to ensure that his children and family were allowed every opportunity to succeed.  He leaves behind a legacy of hope, hard work, and loyalty.

Private cremation services were provided by FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN and a Private Memorial Service was held at Central Christian Church led by Deacon Ray Carattini.  To share an online condolence, logon to www.fifefuneralhome.com
