Maria Del Socorro Romero

Maria (Socorro) Romero, age 89 of Hammond, IN passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2025.  She is survived by her three children:  Laura (Roberto) Guzman, Juventino (Melinda) Romero and Leticia (Michael) Kotso; 8 grandchildren: Adam, Mary, Christopher, Rebecca, John Paul, Francisco, Marianna, Julian; 1 great-grandchild Eliana; and 1 sister, Aricela Larrazolo from Laredo, TX. Maria is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Maria was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Baldomero and grandchildren Teresa and Joseph Kotso.  

Maria was a retired Lunch Matron with the School City of East Chicago.  She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who loved cooking for her family, working in her garden, sewing and crafting and always enjoyed a good cup of coffee!

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 10:00 am at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 11000 West 133rd Avenue, Cedar Lake, IN with Rev. Patrick Gawrylewski officiating. Private cremation to follow.  Visitation at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, December 26, 2025.
