Maria López

With heavy hearts filled with sadness and pain, Maria "Chuy" López (Ma. De Jesús Villalobos), entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at home accompanied by her family.  Maria was born and raised in Mexico and married the love of her life, Faustino López in 1947.  They later moved to Indiana and had six daughters and one son.

Maria was a sweet, kind-hearted, and generous person who was more than willing to help out.  Maria is survived by her children:  Alicia (Eusebio) Reyes, Estela (Felix) Barba, Socorro (Herlindo) Elias, Rodolfo López, Gloria (Louis) Montañez. and Sara (David) Hiles; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  Preceded in death by her husband, Faustino López; daughter, Raquel Barba; and grandsons:  David Barba and Luke Aaron Hiles

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Diego Florez officiating.  Burial to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN.  Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the Church on Wednesday morning.

Maria was born on August 6, 1929.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family and friends. She enjoyed crafts such as sewing and crocheting clothing and home décor for her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed working in her garden and watching the flowers bloom which brought her great joy.  She loved mariachi music, songs from Pedro Infante, as well as his movies.  She also enjoyed dancing from a young age and throughout her life.
