Maria (Pineda) Melendez

Maria Melendez, age 88 of East Chicago, IN passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023 at home.  She is survived by 2 children: Elvira (Jake) Juarez and Alejandro (Urnaa) Melendez; 2 grandchildren: Yesenia Melendez and Ethan (Britney) Juarez; 2 great granddaughters: Clarke and Raven; 2 sisters, Betty (Benito) Pineda Carrillo and Margarita “Margaret” (late Richard) Doe; 3 brothers: James (Michael Ross) Pineda and Miguel “Michael” (late Alice) Pineda and; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Martin Pineda and Rebecca Gonzales; sister, Elena “Helen” (Louis) Ramos; brothers: Rudolfo “Rudy” (late Alejandrina) Duran Pineda, Jose “Lucas” (late Jesusita “Susie”) Pineda, Infant Joseph Pineda, Dionicio “Mitchell” (Maria de la Luz) Pineda, Roberto “Robert” (late Elvira) Pineda, Infant Francisco Pineda and Martin (Irene) Pineda, Jr.

Private Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN.will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, January 20, 2023.  Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana.

Maria was exceptionally skilled in the handicrafts.  She loved sewing, crocheting and cooking.  She made one of the biggest sacrifices one can make by setting aside her goals and dreams for the betterment of her siblings.  Her selflessness will forever be remembered by family and friends.  Our loss is only temporary, as we will all be alongside her once again in the journey of life.  To share an online condolence, logon to www.fifefuneralhome.com
