Maria Ruiz

Maria Ruiz (nee Martinez), age 97, of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, June 20, 2025.  Maria is survived by her sister, Maria Louisa Vega; children: Jesse (Blana) Ruiz, Tilda (Carmelo) Gonzalez, Angel (Marsha) Ruiz, Dolores (Gil) Peral, Maria (Russell) Breger, Antonio (Maria) Ruiz, Luis (Marie) Ruiz, and Theresa (Alan) Cox; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.  Preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Ruiz, Sr.; children: Ramon Ruiz, Jr., and Carmen Ruiz; and grandson, Carmelo "CJ" Gonzalez, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar Street, East Chicago, Indiana, with Rev. Diego Florez officiating.  Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana.  Visitation will be at Church on Wednesday from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass at 10:00 am.

Maria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother.  She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Maria was a faithful servant of God who helped clean the church and visited the sick.  She loved flowers and her hobby for many years was to play bingo.  Maria also helped care for many of her grandchildren.  She will be deeply missed by all who loved and cared for her.
