Maria "Madi" D. Fernandez

Maria D. “Madi” Fernandez, age 42 of Hammond, IN passed away suddenly Sunday, May 16, 2021.  She is survived by 4 children: Dezmond P. Edwards, Anastazia B. Edwards, Kurtis Joziah Kelly and Jaden L. Kelly; fiancé, Demetrius A. “Poodie” Smith; mother, Rosalia Z. Fernandez; father, Juan Fernandez; brother, Juan P. “Weto” Fernandez; nieces: Johanna M. Fernandez, Baby Iris and Baby Millie; special friends, Guera, Grandma Sue, Skinny Mari, Jessica, Marissa, Areli and Bibigunz; nephew, Gordo; many aunts, uncles, cousins (especially little cousins in Florida) and friends.  Preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Pablo and Dolores Fernandez; maternal grandparents, Pascuel Z. and Mary Z. Rodriguez; cousin, Pablo Fernandez; pet dog, “Missy”.

Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, May 21, 2021.  Private cremation to follow.  Brother Ditric Cannon will hold services at 6:00 pm on Friday.

Maria was a cafeteria worker for the School City of Hammond, IN.  She  was a Girl Scout Leader and a youth basketball coach.  Maria was a beautiful person who loved children and she would always lift you up if needed, but she wouldn’t take B.S. from anyone.
