Maria Reyna Martinez

Maria Reyna Martinez, age 66, of Hammond, IN passed away Friday, October 28, 2022 at home.  Maria is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jose Martinez; four children:  Liliana (Salvador) Tinoco, Rene (Belen Garcia) Martinez, Araceli (Christopher) Bryan, and Gabriela (Santiago Navarro) Martinez; thirteen grandchildren:  Salvador, Jr., Esteban, Edgar and Cecilia, Gino, Damian, Emilio, Natalia, Kamila, Chris, Jr., and Briana, Fabian and Julian; two great grandchildren:  Moises and Yuliana; mother, Severa Salas; several brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Preceded in death by her father, Alejandro Cortez; and a brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 10:30 am at St. Mary Church, Indianapolis Blvd. at 144th Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Nestor Varon officiating.  Private Cremation to follow.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN and on Friday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the funeral home. 

Maria Reyna Martinez, was a loving wife of 45 years, mother of 4, grandmother of 13, great grandmother of 2 and friends of tooooooo many to count. Although she left this world too soon, God gained such a beautiful Angel. She left behind a legacy filled with amazing memories and so much love, whether it was always making sure we were fed and ok or if it was coming in the house yelling like the only way she could. She loved riding her bike, going on her morning walks, and her occasional trip to the casino with her husband. But there was nothing she loved more than just being at home with her kids and grandkids, even if that means telling the kids to stop running in and out of the house a million times but we all knew she loved every minute of it. She was full of personality and no matter what she always left an impression on everyone she met. As we sit here today and think about life, one thing we can agree on is that everyone dies, but not everyone truly lives. But, Reyna showed us that no matter where you come from, what you have or what you been through that you can overcome it all and live a life full of love and pureness. We can go on and on a write a book about all the memories we have of Reyna and what we thought of her but the one thing that stands out the most is her dedication as a mother. There was good times, there was hard times, there were times of tears and many times of smiles and that goes to show the dedication and passion she had as a mother to raise her kids to be the strong minded, kindhearted, passionate people they have grown to become. Although we are sadden that she is gone, we know that we, our kids and everyone in our family has a guardian angel that we couldn’t be more proud of. We may have lost you physically but now you can do what you do best and that is watch over us and take care of us like only you could and that right there shows that you will be around forever.
