Maria T. Escobar de Casillas

Maria T. Escobar de Casillas, age 74 of East Chicago, IN. passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024 at home.  She is survived by 6 children: Ramon A. (Elia) Casillas, Mario E. (Lorenza) Casillas, Esperanza C. (Salvador) Arana, Patricia E. (Marc) Casillas-Reding, Enrique E. (Imelda) Casillas, and Esteban Barrera; 10 grandchildren: Ray, Clarice, Xochilt, Esai, Eliana, Andrea, Soraya, Alexis, Jazmin and Ezra; 2 great grandchildren, Xiomara and Zyanya; siblings: Francisco, Sergio, Jesus, Maria Luisa and Maria Lidia; numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her parents, Celestino Escobar and Valeria Soto; husband, Arturo G. Casillas; son, Enrique; siblings: Gildardo, Aurora, Enrique, Celia, and Hortencia.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN.

A Mass will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Mary Church, corner of Indianapolis Blvd. and 144th Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Jose Manuel Pedraza officiating. Funeral and final resting will be held in Mexico.

Our mother believed in no greater love than the love for her children and family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  Her faith in God provided her peace and strength she needed to live a happy and fulfilled life of joy and laughter.

She was beautiful, kind, giving, understanding, comforting, strong minded, “feisty”, compassionate, caring, and lived in service to others.
