Marilyn (Perez) Velez

Marilyn Velez, age 64, of Hammond, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Born on June 5, 1961, Marilyn Velez lived a full and joyful life, impacting close to a thousand students' lives through her work as a paraprofessional in early childhood education for the School City of Hammond for 30 years. A woman of immense faith, Marilyn was a founding member of Hope Christian Church where she especially enjoyed giving back to her community. 

Marilyn married Gilbert Velez on May 28,1983, and together they spent 42 loving years together. She enjoyed traveling, photography, and spending time with her family and friends. She especially cherished her time with her grandson, Julian. 

Marilyn is survived by her husband Gilbert; children: Michelle (Viviana), and Gilbert (Jackie); grandson, Julian; siblings: Harry, Dahiana, and Tatiana; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother, Pascuala; father, Francisco; and siblings: Frank and Nancy. 

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 9:30 am at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN with Pastor Lavonne Carson officiating.  Burial to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN. Visitation at FIFE FUNERAL HOME will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, July 7, 2025, and from 9:00 am to 9:30 am Tuesday morning. To share an online condolence, logon to www.fifefuneralhome.com
