Matiana (Bernal) Luna

Matiana Luna, age 97 formerly of East Chicago, IN passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024.  She is survived by 2 daughters, Estrellita Todd and Alma L. Gonzalez; son, Louis Lopez; step daughter, Pamela (Dave) Ryan; sister, Elisa Sanchez; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her parents, Ausencio and Delores Bernal; husband, Isidore Luna; 2 sons, Joe F. and Tony Lopez; brother, Julio Bernal; sister, Amelia Porras.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 17, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Stanislaus Church, 4937 Magoun Avenue, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Terry Steffens officiating.  Burial to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN.  Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 16, 2024 and from 9:30 am to 10:00 am at the Church on Friday morning. The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit #369 will hold services at 6:00 pm on Thursday.

Matiana enjoyed family dinners, crocheting, bingo and many volunteer organizations.  She liked making rosaries, Eucharistic Ministry and volunteering at both St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago and Franciscan Hospital, Hammond, IN. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Rosary Sodality and Happy Timers Seniors.  Matiana also was Past President of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary  #289 and #369 Chaplain.
