Nilda Rosa Martinez

Nilda Rosa Martinez, age 78 of Michigan City, IN formerly of Gary, IN and East Chicago, IN passed away Thursday, July 9, 2026.  She is survived by 4 children: Jesus (Maritza) Martinez, Fermin (DeeMarcia) Martinez, Felix Martinez, and Jimma Martinez -Arnett;  grandchildren: Sheila, Jasmine, Antonio, Victoria, Victor Jr., Joshua, Jacob, Juan, Lashauna, Ebony, Patrick, Ashley, Ronald, Felix Jr., Milia Julia, and Marcos; many great grandchildren; siblings: numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her first husband, Juan G. Martinez; parents, Leocardo DeLeon and Julia (Ortiz Ruiz) Mojica.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 17, 2026 at 11:00 am at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN with Pastor Israel Santiago officiating.  Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, IN.  Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday.

Nilda graduated from Horace Mann High School in Gary and Indiana University Northwest where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.  She worked as a probation officer for the East Chicago Police Department and she was a Registered Nurse at the Westside Nursing/South Shore Rehabilitation Center serving as Activities Director.  She loved sewing, singing an dancing.
