Noreen A. Komasinski

 Noreen Amelia Komasinski, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend passed away at home on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at the age of 83.

Noreen was born and raised in Saginaw Michigan to Ralph and Erna (nee Gadell) Van Wormer. She attended Western Michigan University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Noreen taught high school German in Auburn, Indiana before enlisting in the Air Force (1968-1974) achieving the rank of Captain. Noreen received several commendations including the Air Force Commendation Medal. After separating from the Air Force, she taught computer classes at St. Andrew the Apostle School in Calumet City, Illinois.

Noreen was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 369. Noreen served as the Adjutant, Finance Officer, and Post Commander. She also was a member of the American Legion First District, which covers all of the American Legion posts in Lake County; where she was Membership Chairman, Executive Vice Commander, and then District Commander (2013-2014). Noreen was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans, and ANAVICUS (Army, Navy, & Air Force Veterans in Canada).

Noreen is preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Marion and Genevieve Komasinski, sister Nancy Van Wormer, and sister-in-law Carol Jean Rzepka (nee Komasinski).

Noreen is survived by her husband Ernest Komasinski, daughter Katharine Komasinski (Harold Freundlich), son Keith Komasinski. sister Donna Shankle, nephew Douglas (Laura) Van Wormer, nephew James (Malinda) Rzepka, niece Lynda (Jeffrey) Velez, niece Cheryl (Charles) Lamb and nephew John (Jillian) Rzepka, as well as two great nieces and four great nephews.

In Lieu of Flowers the family asks for you to make a charitable donation to American Legion Allied Post 369 and/or the American Humane Society. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Juy 1, 2026 at 11:00 am at All Saints Church, 570 Sibley Street, Hammond, IN with Rev. Eduardo Malagon officiating.  Interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN.  Visitation at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 and from 10:30 am to 11:00 am at the Church on Wednesday morning. American Legion Allied Post #369 will conduct services at 6:30 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
