Pastor Ruben Fontanes

Rev. Ruben D. Fontanes passed away on October 30, 2021, in Peoria, Arizona.

Ruben D. Fontanes was born on the 20th of April in the year 1925 to Santiago Fontanes and Maria Rolon in Aibonito, Puerto Rico.

Ruben was married to the love of his life, the late Aracelia Fontanes for over 66 years who precedes him in death. He leaves behind to cherish his memory: Children: Ruben Fontanes Jr., Arlene (Dion) Torres, and Steven Fontanes. Granddaughters: Tylia Fontanes and Michelle (Jim) Gray whom he raised. Grandchildren: Arlene Dionelle, Barbie, Ruben, Elva, Richard, Michael, Aaron, Adell, Nathaniel, Bianca, Dominic, and Nyah. Several great-grandchildren. Siblings: Maria, Lourdes, and John.

He was preceded in death by his parents Santiago and Maria, Sisters: Carmen, Lillian, Emma, and Virginia. Children: Michael and Joyce.

Visitation will be held at The Cross Church located at 3616 Elm Street in East Chicago, Indiana on Friday, November 19th from 3 pm to 5 pm. Funeral Service will begin at 5 pm with Pastor Donald Ramirez, officiating. Concluding Visitation & Services will be Saturday, November 20th at 10 am followed by burial at Ridgelawn Cemetery, 4201 W. Ridge Road, Gary Indiana.

Reverend Ruben D. Fontanes was a man of integrity, with a flawless testimony, who was respected by all. Not only in the Christian community but also in the community where he resided for over 6 decades. After a long and successful ministry of over 50 years (Evangelistic Temple Shalom) in East Chicago, Indiana, he retired in 2016 and relocated to Sun City, Arizona where he lived with his family for the remainder of his life.
