Paul Myers Obituary

Paul A. Myers

March 3, 1953 – September 9, 2026

Paul A. Myers, 73, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alice Myers, longtime residents of East Chicago, Indiana. He is survived by his bonus son, David Rodriguez; David’s wife, Samantha; and their two sons, Koda and Liam. Becoming a grandfather brought Paul tremendous joy. He was elated to be promoted to “Grandpa” and cherished every opportunity he had to spend time with Koda and Liam, especially while attending their school activities and sporting events. Those moments became some of his most treasured memories.

Paul was a man of many interests, with an incredible appreciation for history and an especially deep love for his hometown of East Chicago. He was an avid collector of books and historical pieces connected to the city and was also the proud owner of his beloved 1929 Model A. Perhaps Paul’s greatest legacy can be found in Marktown, the community he loved so dearly and worked tirelessly to preserve. He dedicated countless years to researching its history, studying the law, corresponding with lawmakers, and advocating for the preservation of the neighborhood so that Marktown would always maintain the historic integrity upon which it was founded. His commitment to his community extended far beyond preservation. Paul will be remembered for his contributions to the development of the Cline Avenue Bridge, his years of teaching Taekwondo, and the countless tours he gave to visitors who came to experience and learn about Marktown. He possessed a wealth of knowledge and was always eager to share the history and stories of the community he proudly called home.

Paul was more than a historian, advocate, teacher, collector, and community figure. To his family, he was Grandpa, family, and a constant presence whose impact cannot be measured simply by the things he accomplished. To Marktown and East Chicago, he was a passionate voice for preserving the past for future generations. Paul left an undeniable mark on both his family and his community. His knowledge, dedication, stories, and love for Marktown will continue through all those fortunate enough to have known him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the title he so fittingly earned:  “The Unofficial Mayor of Marktown.”
