Paul "Papa" Salazar

Paul "Papa" Salazar, age 72 of East Chicago, Indiana and formerly of the Brunswick area in Gary, IN, transitioned from this life into eternal life on Monday, October 31, 2022 with his loving family by his side.  Paul was born June 28, 1950 in Ocotlan, Jalisco, Mexico to the late Cayetano and Bernardina Salazar.

Paul is survived by his daughters: Liza (Saul) and Teri Salazar; grandchildren: Terrence A. Salazar-Ray, Genevieve, Saulito, Rachel, and Sael “Booboo” Cordero; siblings: Esther (Tiburcio) Herrera, Dolores Aragon, Antonio Salazar, Maria Lecea, and Carmen (Edwin) Gonzalez; nieces and nephews: Michael, Richard (Melissa), Adam (Sarah), Bernadette, Melissa (Lou), Antonio (Angie), Jr., Victoria (Bryan), Adolfo, Paul, Robert, Jr. (Mickey), Laura, Israel, Alexander (Jaime), Edwin, Jr., Laura, and Lydia. Numerous loving grand nieces and grand nephews and loving cousins from the Salazar, Ramirez, and Napules Families.  Preceded in death by his parents, Cayetano and Bernardina Salazar, and nephew, Joseph Lecea.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Monday, November 21, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN.

Paul retired from the LMF/RHDegasser at U.S. Steel Company as part of the Latino Maintenance Connection after 47 years of service.  After retirement he spent countless days with his grandchildren.  He was a devoted and best father his girls could have asked for, and the most amazing grandfather to his grandchildren who he adored.  A loving father figure to Terrence and several of his nephews and cousins.  Paul touched countless lives in his precious 72 years on earth and was the most “Gentlest Giant” with the biggest heart.
