Pedro V. Hernandez

Pedro V. Hernandez, age 81 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.  Pedro was born January 2, 1942 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico to Pedro and Marcolina Hernandez.  He grew up in the mountains of Palo Hincado alongside his 19 siblings and is survived by 4. 

Pedro left Puerto Rico in the 1960’s and settled in East Chicago, IN where he started his family and his career at Inland Steel Company retiring after 35 years.

Pedro was a loving family man and is survived by his 3 children: Diana (Cameron Krantz) Hernandez, Peter (Yvette) Hernandez and Jerry Hernandez; 11 grandchildren that loved him immensely: late Elizer, Eliza, Jerry, Jr., Jadon, Noah, Isaac, Kamilla, Chase, Kennedy and Giselle; many nieces and nephews.

Pedro had an amazing spirit that was infectious. Those that knew him loved him.  He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing to those he loved.  There wasn’t anything Pedro wouldn’t do for his family.  Pedro enjoyed gardening which reflects his ability to bring life and joy to any situation.  He will be remembered by his laughter, his walk and his outstanding voice along with the love he gave everyone.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, IN.  Deacon Ray Helfen will hold services at 5:15 pm Sunday.  Private cremation to follow.  To share an online condolence, log on to www.fifefuneralhome.com
